And the winner is... Joe Biden !

The title of our previous post was "Political thriller in Denver".
This morning, we should entitle our article "Comedy in Denver".

The choice of Senator Joe Biden from Delaware as Obama's running mate could appear as a comic one, if the  stake was not the vice-presidency of the USA.

Of course, this has nothing to do with the qualifications of this highly respectable politician. This man would have been a very good choice in other circumstances...

So what's wrong with Joe Biden ?
Joe Biden happens to have been a candidate to the Democratic nomination himself, and during the campaign, he was one of the fiercest opponents to Barack Obama, and sometimes his criticisms were cruel. He was often nastier than Hillary Clinton.
Here are some examples of his statements about Obama :
"the presidency is not something that lends itself to on-the-job training" : that was his answer to a question that had been asked to him about Obama.
Several times Joe Biden criticized Obama's inexperience and his foreign policy naiveté :
"Would I make a blanket commitment to meet unconditionally with the leaders of each of those countries ?" He asked in August 2007, referring to Obama's willingness to meet with other world leaders, including those of rogue states like the Iranian president : "Absolutely, positively, no."
He also expressed concerns over the idea of nominating someone without "unimpeachable credentials on national security and foreign policy," saying that would be a "tragic mistake".

And now the problem is that Republicans are laughing at the Democratic ticket, and mocking Joe Biden' s declarations. Once again, they have been quick in their response. John Mccain's spokesman Ben Porrit, said yesterday :
"There has been no harsher critic of Barack obama's lack of experience than Joe Biden. Biden has denounced Barack Obama's poor foreign policy judgment and has strongly argued in his own words what Americans are quickly realizing - that Barack Obama is not ready to be President."

The McCain camp has immediately announced that  a new web site will be opened on Sunday, featuring Joe Biden in three videos criticizing Obama.

One will be an extract from the Iowa debate, in January. I think this is one of the most striking videos that Republicans are going to use again and again during the campaign :
Ahead of the debate Biden had said Obama "can be ready, but right now I don't believe he is. The presidency is not something that lends itself to on-the-job training."

At the debate in Iowa, he said: "I think I stand by the statement."

Have a particular look at Obama's expression while Biden is criticizing him !
His face reflects vexation, anger, even hatred. We have the impression he is refraining from retorting violently, as if he were doing his best to control his feelings. And what we can read in his eyes is : "Senator, Joe Biden, be sure that one day, I will take a revenge !"
No trace of friendship and respect ! Aren't they needed for a successful ticket ?

So the question is :
why the hell has Obama chosen someone who once called him "a tragic mistake" ?
